Setting up your account
Sign-up starts with verifying an email address you already use. We send a short-lived, six-digit code that expires after 10 minutes.
Next, you set up a device key, ideally through a passkey. This key is generated on your device and is what allows content to be decrypted there.
A password/recovery alternative is offered only when it is genuinely supported, and its limits are explained honestly rather than implied to be as strong as a device key.
Account recovery
Recovery options depend on what you set up during onboarding. If you configured a recovery method, follow the prompts from the sign-in screen.
We do not claim that a recovery process is private if it could disclose content or keys. Where a recovery path has that trade-off, the interface says so before you rely on it.
If no recovery method was configured and your device key is lost, encrypted content tied to that key may not be recoverable. This is a direct consequence of content being decryptable only on authorized devices.
Choosing and changing your storage location
During onboarding, and later from Settings, you can choose to keep content on this device only, or connect a storage location you control.
Supported connectors include user-owned WebDAV servers, self-hosted storage, and explicitly connected encrypted storage providers. Only adapters that have actually been implemented are ever enabled.
You can see which storage location is connected at any time from Settings → Storage, and disconnect it there.
Exporting your content
Export controls live in Settings → Export. Notes can be exported as Markdown or plain text; other modules offer format options appropriate to their content.
Exports are generated and decrypted locally on your device before being written to a file you choose.
Getting support
For account or product questions, contact legal@chrysaor.net.
For a security issue, use the responsible-disclosure contact on the Security page rather than general support.
Privacy basics, in plain language
Your device generates encryption keys and handles readable content. Sync, if you enable it, goes only to a storage location you choose. Chrysaor services handle short-lived verification and essential abuse protection.
