Terms of Service
Read this. It’s shorter than most, and we tried to write it the way we’d explain it to you in person — because that’s the point.
Chrysaor is operated by Chrysaor, Ltd., a subsidiary of Peleus, Inc. When we say “we” or “Chrysaor,” that’s who we mean. When you use the Service — our apps, our infrastructure, whatever we’ve shipped this month — you’re agreeing to these Terms. If that doesn’t work for you, don’t use the Service. That’s the whole deal.
1. What Chrysaor Is
We build privacy and security tools: workspaces, mail, calendars, documents, storage, encryption, authentication — the connective tissue of a digital life you actually control. We’re part of Peleus, and we build toward Peleus’s larger bet on privacy technology that works for the person using it, not the company selling it.
Not everything is available everywhere, or finished. Features vary by product, region, platform, and how far along we are in building them. We’ll tell you when something’s rough around the edges.
2. Who Can Use This
You need to be old enough and legally able to enter a contract where you live. If you’re signing up on behalf of a company, you’re telling us you have the authority to bind that company — and “you” then means both you and them. If the law where you are says you can’t use this, don’t.
3. Your Account, Your Responsibility
You make the account, you keep it accurate, you keep it secure. That means your password, your passkey, your recovery codes, your device keys — all of it. If someone gets into your account because you handed them the keys, that’s on you. If you think someone’s gotten in without your permission, tell us fast.
Don’t lend out your login. Don’t use someone else’s.
On recovery — read this part carefully. Some of what we build is end-to-end encrypted or bound to your device on purpose, because that’s what real privacy requires. That design choice cuts both ways: if you lose your key, your passkey, or your recovery credential, there may be genuinely nothing we can do. Not “we won’t help” — we can’t. We don’t hold a spare key to your encrypted life. Guard your recovery method like it’s the only copy, because for some of our products, it is.
4. Free, For Now
Right now, using Chrysaor doesn’t cost you anything, unless we’ve told you otherwise for a specific product. That may change. We might introduce paid tiers, storage limits, or premium features down the line. If and when we do, we’ll show you the price and the terms before you pay a cent — no surprise charges, no fine-print billing traps.
Nothing here obligates us to stay free forever. We’re telling you that plainly instead of burying it.
5. What You Can’t Do Here
Use the Service lawfully. That’s the rule underneath all the rules. Specifically, don’t:
- Break the law, a court order, or a government rule that applies to you.
- Steal or infringe someone else’s IP, privacy, or publicity rights.
- Pretend to be someone you’re not.
- Build or spread malware, ransomware, spyware, viruses, worms — any of it.
- Phish, steal credentials, or run a scam.
- Break into accounts, systems, or data that aren’t yours to access.
- Mess with the Service’s infrastructure — disrupt it, disable it, overload it.
- Try to route around our authentication, access controls, or rate limits.
- Attack, probe, or scan systems without permission.
- Distribute content that’s illegal to distribute.
- Use us as a tool to harass, exploit, or threaten another person.
- Spam people.
- Run automation that degrades the Service for everyone else.
- Reverse-engineer or decompile the Service, except where the law says you’re entitled to.
- Strip out our proprietary notices.
- Do anything that puts the security, privacy, or integrity of Chrysaor or its users at real risk.
We may have a separate Acceptable Use Policy with more specifics for particular products. Read that too if it applies to what you’re doing.
6. Your Content Is Yours
What you create, upload, write, or store through Chrysaor — your files, your notes, your documents, your conversations — is yours. Full stop. We’re not taking ownership of it by having you agree to these Terms.
What we do need is a narrow license: enough access to actually run the Service, keep it secure, fix it when it breaks, and improve it. Nothing more.
And where we’ve built a product so that we genuinely cannot see the contents of what you’ve encrypted — these Terms don’t somehow grant us a backdoor. If the architecture locks us out, we’re locked out. That’s by design, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise in a Terms document.
You’re responsible for having the rights to whatever you store or send through us. We’re not vetting your content; that’s on you.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Notice governs how we actually handle your data, and it’s written to match how each product is actually built — the encryption, the data minimization, the storage design, all of it. If you connect a third-party service, that provider’s own privacy policy takes over for whatever they’re handling.
Questions about privacy: privacy@chrysaor.net.
8. When You Connect Something Else
You can hook Chrysaor up to outside services — storage providers, identity providers, email systems, WebDAV, cloud storage, whatever. When you do:
- That connection is yours to authorize.
- Their terms and policies apply to what they do with your data.
- We don’t control what happens on their end, and we’re not on the hook when their end fails.
Connecting a third party to Chrysaor doesn’t make us a party to whatever agreement you have with them.
9. Our Intellectual Property
The Service — the code, the architecture, the design, the trademarks, the documentation, the underlying inventions — belongs to Chrysaor, Peleus, or whoever we’ve licensed it from. Using the Service doesn’t transfer any of that to you. We’re giving you a limited, personal, revocable right to use it for what it’s meant for — not a license to copy it, resell it, or build a competing product out of it.
10. Feedback
If you send us an idea, a bug report, a suggestion — thank you. We may use it, build on it, ship it, without owing you anything for it. You don’t have to give us feedback in the first place, but if you do, that’s the deal.
11. Security — What We Promise and What We Can’t
We build with security as a first principle, not an afterthought. But no system — ours or anyone’s — is unbreakable. Your security also depends on your device, your network, your own habits, and the third parties you choose to connect. We won’t claim a certification we haven’t actually earned, and we won’t tell you we’re immune to every threat, because nobody is.
12. Uptime
We work to keep the Service reliable. We don’t promise it’ll never go down. Maintenance, upgrades, attacks, outages beyond our control, third-party failures — any of these can interrupt things. We may change, pause, or shut down parts of the Service. When we reasonably can, we’ll tell you before something material happens.
13. Beta and Experimental Features
If we’ve labeled something beta, preview, or experimental, treat it that way. It might break. It might disappear. It doesn’t carry the same guarantees as the rest of the Service, because it isn’t finished.
14. Suspension and Termination
You can walk away whenever you want.
We can suspend or cut off your access if you materially break these Terms, break the law, create a security risk, or if we’re legally required to act — or if we shut down the product entirely. We’ll try to warn you first when that’s realistic. When it isn’t — an active attack, ongoing abuse, real danger to users — we act first and explain after.
When your access ends, the parts of these Terms that need to survive — IP, liability, your content obligations, dispute resolution — still apply.
15. When Data Gets Deleted
Delete your account or your content, and we handle it per our Privacy Notice and however the specific product is built. Some traces may linger briefly in backups or security logs before they clear out — that’s normal system behavior, not us holding onto your data. And if you’ve destroyed your own encryption key, your encrypted data may be unreadable forever, even if the encrypted bytes are still sitting somewhere. Keep your own copies of anything you can’t afford to lose.
16. The Legal Disclaimer, Said Honestly
We provide the Service “as is.” We can’t promise it’ll always be up, always be perfect, always be secure, always match every use case you throw at it, or never lose a byte of data. We’re not going to write around that. To the extent the law lets us disclaim these things, we do — and nowhere in here are we trying to disclaim a right the law says we can’t.
17. Limits on Our Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: we’re not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, lost data, or the other categories of harm that tend to show up in a lawsuit’s damages section, arising from your use of the Service, a security incident, a third-party failure, or anything else covered here. Our total liability, however it arises, is capped at whatever you paid us in the past twelve months, or $100 — whichever is greater. Where the law won’t let us cap or exclude something, we don’t try to.
18. Indemnification
If your violation of these Terms, the law, someone else’s rights, or your own misuse of the Service gets us sued, you agree to step in, defend us, and cover the reasonable costs — to the extent the law allows. We can take over that defense ourselves if we choose to; if we do, we’ll expect you to cooperate.
19. Copyright
Think something on the Service infringes your copyright? Email legal@chrysaor.net with enough detail for us to actually find and evaluate the claim — the work, the material, your contact info, and why you believe it infringes. Nothing here limits your rights under copyright law.
20. Government Requests
We’ll disclose information when the law genuinely requires it. Where we’re legally allowed to, and it’s practical, we’ll tell you first. We’re not going to hand over more than the law requires — and where our own architecture means we can’t access your encrypted content, we can’t produce what we don’t have.
21. Changes to the Service
We may add, cut, or change features, and we may set reasonable limits on storage or usage to keep things running and secure. If we materially change these Terms, we’ll update the date at the top, and where the law requires more notice, we’ll give it. Keep using the Service after a change goes live, and you’ve accepted it, to the extent the law lets that stand.
22. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by Montana law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where federal or other mandatory law says otherwise. Disputes go to the state or federal courts with jurisdiction in Montana, unless the law says they have to go somewhere else. You’re agreeing to those courts’ jurisdiction to the extent the law allows.
23. Arbitration
We’re not imposing mandatory arbitration today. If we ever do, we’ll spell it out clearly, with every disclosure the law requires — not slip it in quietly.
24. Severability
If a court strikes down one piece of this, the rest stands. We’ll enforce what’s left to the fullest extent the law allows.
25. No Waiver
Us not enforcing something once doesn’t mean we’ve given up the right to enforce it later.
26. Assignment
You can’t hand off your rights or obligations under these Terms without our sign-off. We can transfer these Terms — in whole or part — if we’re acquired, merged, restructured, financed, or sell the relevant product.
27. The Whole Agreement
These Terms, plus anything we’ve expressly folded in, are the whole deal between you and us — unless a separate signed agreement says otherwise.
28. What This Relationship Isn’t
Using Chrysaor doesn’t make us your partner, your agent, your employer, or your fiduciary. We’re an independent company, owned by Peleus, Inc. Peleus isn’t automatically on the hook for our agreement with you just because they own us.
